Synopsis
After failing to save her father from drowning years earlier, eighteen-year-old Nicole has built
her life around making sure no one else suffers the same fate. Now a lifeguard on a popular
summer lake, she remains trapped by guilt, caring for her alcoholic mother while struggling to
move beyond the tragedy that continues to define her life.
During a Fourth of July weekend getaway with her closest friends on Blueberry Island in The
Narrows, Nicole loses the gold necklace her father gave her before he died. While searching for
it beneath an old dock, she comes face-to-face with The Drowned Girl, the spirit of a teenage girl
bound to the lake by the chains that drowned her decades earlier. Convinced the local legends
surrounding The Narrows are real, Nicole desperately tries to persuade her friends to leave.
They dismiss her fears as stress, grief, and the effects of hallucinogenic mushrooms.
Feeling isolated and defeated, Nicole leaves the island alone. But while crossing the lake, she
discovers an abandoned jet ski belonging to two missing visitors and a shredded life jacket floating nearby.
Realizing the danger is far greater than she feared, Nicole turns her boat around and heads back
into The Narrows, refusing to abandon her friends.
By the time she returns, The Narrows has become a supernatural trap. Fog engulfs the lake,
boats fail, and one by one her friends fall victim to The Drowned Girl. As the body count rises,
Nicole repeatedly risks her own life to save those around her, unable to let go of the people she
loves no matter the cost. With the help of Deputy TJ Bates, she devises a desperate plan to use
the chains binding The Drowned Girl to drag the spirit back into the depths of the lake.
The plan succeeds, but at a devastating cost. As Nicole struggles to save TJ from the same fate
that claimed her father, he forces her to confront the painful truth she has spent years denying -
not everyone can be saved. Finally learning to let go, Nicole releases TJ's hand and escapes the
sinking wreckage. Believing the nightmare is over, she swims for shore. But The Drowned Girl
rises one final time and drags Nicole back into the water.
By morning, authorities dismiss the deaths as a tragic boating accident, while the truth sinks once
more beneath the dark waters of The Narrows, waiting for its next victims.
